Nicole Lew

The Alibaba Group’s legal director of listing compliance and corporate governance, Nicole Lew had a stellar start to her legal career when she graduated top of her class at the City University of Hong Kong, winning the George YC Mok Prize in 2006. In 2015, aged just 34, she become one of the youngest general counsels and chief legal officers of a Hong Kong listed company, and has since worked with executive-level team members and management to grow the business from 285 employees and annual revenues of HK$37 million to 990 people and income of HK$11.3 billion. More recently, she was the lead coordinator for the Global MediXchange for Combating Covid-19, a global initiative established by the Alibaba Foundation, the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Health that shared knowledge about the disease with more than 10,000 doctors in 120 countries. “I always try to do my best and lead by example, but also to learn from and respect other people,” says Lew. “I’m also mindful of taking care of myself – without good physical and mental health one can’t really fulfil one’s potential or enjoy what life has to offer.”
