Betty Fung

Former director of Leisure and Cultural Services and permanent secretary for Home Affairs Betty Fung has long been a woman of power on the forefront of culture and arts. Fung joined the Administrative Service of the Hong Kong Government in 1986 and has served in a wide range of positions in various bureaus and departments. However, it was her appointment as the first female CEO of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority in October 2021 that saw Fung turn the vast precinct into an internationally renowned cultural hub. Since then, she’s steered the successful opening of two museums, the world-class M+ and Hong Kong Palace Museum, which have attracted more than 6.2 million visitors since their openings. The area also includes the Xiqu Centre, Freespace and a highly popular Art Park, but she’s nowhere near done with her mission. Talking of her future goals, Fung says: “We’ll continue to enhance the WKCD’s capacity to receive visitors and present the best-quality arts and cultural programmes to enhance the district as a world-class cultural destination for visitors from Hong Kong, the Mainland and overseas.”
