Sydney Sweeney: Six Facts You Need to Know About The ‘Anyone But You’ Star

There’s more to her than meets the eye. Here are some facts you need to know about Anyone But You star Sydney Sweeney.

Sydney Sweeney may seem like someone who just got her big break, but she’s consistently said that she’s worked hard to get where she was—and she’s right. The 26-year-old American actress is making waves right now for bringing fun romcoms back with Anyone But You, but she’s done (and is doing) so much more than acting, and that includes her breakout role in Euphoria. Here are some things you need to know about Sydney Sweeney.

Facts about Sydney Sweeney you need to know

She’s a legit grease monkey

Sydney revealed in an interview with James Corden that it was her mum that started her love for cars—but she didn’t love it at first. Her mum only allowed her to drive a manual starting at 13 years old, and when she finally got her permit at 15, her mum forced her to change a tire. “She kicked me out and wouldn’t let me get back in until I had changed the tire,” she explained. “I was screaming and crying, saying ‘You’re the worst mom’. But then I fell in love with cars.”

Check out her TikTok, aptly named Syd’s Garage, where she posts the work she does on various cars. She’s also a brand ambassador for Ford.

She got bit by a spider while filming Anyone But You

As glamorous as acting might seem to be, there are legitimate work hazards. She was recently on The Tonight Show promoting Anyone But You, and she told the story of how she and Glen Powell were shooting a scene that involved having a Huntsman spider on her. Go ahead; Google “Huntsman spider”. I dare you.

The crew assured her the spider was “trained”. The director yelled, “Action”—and the inevitable happened. She brought along a clip to show the sheer terror when the moment happened.

She’s been doing MMA since she was 14 years old

Aside from being a passionate mechanic, another hobby of Sydney’s is mixed martial arts. In an interview with Marie Claire, she said that she started MMA when she was 14 and did her first competition at 18, “A grappling competition against all guys a weight category above me”. She won first place.

Her love for the sport hasn’t waned. Last year, she was spotted at a UFC match, and in 2022, she showed off some of her skills on IG.

Her BFF is her pitbull mix dog, Tank

She’s mum about her romantic relationship but there is one relationship she unabashedly shares with everyone: her friendship with her dog bestie, Tank. She adopted the pitbull mix dog in 2015 when she was 17 and without her parents’ permission. Her father welcomed the new addition. Her mom? Not so much. “I got in so much trouble,” she said in an interview with Palm Springs Life, “More trouble than I have in my entire life. Fortunately, everyone ended up falling in love with her, and she became my best friend.”

She was high school valedictorian

“The biggest misconception about me is that I’m a dumb blonde with big t**s. I’m actually a brunette,” she wittingly joked in a Glamour video. While Sydney was athletic in her school years, she also excelled academically. She learned multiple languages and was a high school valedictorian. If that’s not proof enough that she’s insanely smart and can do anything…

She’s the CEO of her own production company

She launched Fifty-Fifty Films in 2020. Aside from being one of the production companies that worked on Anyone But You, the company is also working on a TV series titled The Player’s Table which she’s set to produce and star in.

She’s in a relationship—and reportedly engaged

She keeps her relationship private (and rightfully so) with her beau not even featured on her IG. But in lieu of rumours that everyone loves to conjure up in the absence of details, she set some of the record straight in an interview with Glamour. Jonathan Davino is a businessman from Chicago, and according to Sydney, their relationship has been going steadily for some time. But more than being her partner (some have actually reported he’s now her fiancé after seeing a ring on her finger), he’s also her producing partner, and they produced Anyone But You together.

“It’s really great to work with someone who knows you so well, who fully supports your ideas, your vision and your voice,” she said. “And it’s nice. I mean, who doesn’t want to be with their best friend all the time?”
