From being a YouTube sensation teaching yoga to more than a million subscribers, to founding the popular yoga apparel brand CoffeeSweat, it seems there’s nothing Coffee Lam can’t do if she’s put her mind to it. Who better, then, to ask about making a fresh start in 2024?
At the start of the New Year, I think it’s important that we break away from our comfort zones, and not allow ourselves to be limited by our old mindset. I believe opportunities always present themselves, but we need to learn to grasp them and make use of them. To refresh our mindset for the New Year, it’s important to not be scared to take risks and to work hard for our goals. I truly do believe that our hard work will be rewarded.
I don’t really make New Year resolutions but every year I tell myself the same thing. Our future is always in our own hands, and everyone’s journey is a result of the decisions they make during the process. It’s important to live every day to the fullest. We have to think through our decisions and when we act, we should do so without regrets. I didn’t think I’d ever create my own YouTube channel; I also didn’t think I’d ever set up my own yoga brand. These all kind of happened by coincidence and I took the risk to try. So don’t be afraid to try, and when you do, try your very best.
If you’re in poor health or want to stay fit, the New Year is always a good place to start. Even if it’s five minutes every day, you should take this time to build yourself a new habit, and to make this something you enjoy – and slowly but surely, you’ll be able to build up an even stronger routine. Exercise can help regulate our mood and, in turn, have a positive impact on our careers, our families, our everything.
It’s been three years since I started CoffeeSweat and in this time I’ve learned so much. The beginning was tough, I’m not going to lie. It was really stressful, and we ran into so many obstacles. But looking back, I’ve built a strong team and we keep creating beautiful new designs. Outside of our business too, we’ve worked so closely with different charities, which was always a goal of mine. I hope our brand can continue to influence people to keep fit and stay healthy. I really do think we’re heading in the right direction. This year, we’re also going to open our first flagship store, which I’m super-excited about.
For 2024, my goal is to be happy. The few years building CoffeeSweat brought me a lot of stress and I worked out less than I did before, which didn’t help. For 2024, I hope I can go back to my roots and spend more time on my own personal fitness and my own mental health. While working hard towards our professional goals we shouldn’t forget to take care of ourselves.
